29th Anniversary highlighted by full return to in-person event to end HIV in Kentucky

Lexington, Kentucky (March 29, 2022) – The 2022 Lexington AIDS Walk is turning 29 and to celebrate, it will be returning to a full, in-person event, AVOL Kentucky announced today.  The annual fundraiser, which was created to raise additional HIV/AIDS awareness, develop long-term solutions, and implement measures with the goal of one day eradicating the disease once and for all will be held on Sunday, April 24. The Walk will begin at 1:30pm with participants meeting on the steps of the Carnegie Center located at 251 West 2nd Street.

“We’re very excited to be returning to an in-person event and walking with family, friends, and sponsors to end HIV in the commonwealth,” said Jon Parker, Executive Director of AVOL Kentucky. AVOL moved to a virtual platform in 2020 due to the global coronavirus pandemic and a hybrid walk in 2021 with HIV Care Heroes walking together and other dedicated champions of the cause continuing to utilize online options.

Last year’s Walk raised nearly $40,000 and Parker says “2022 represents a tremendous opportunity to reinvigorate our community’s resolve, raise awareness, and recommit to ending HIV once and for all.”

Together, with the support of the community and corporate partners, Parker believes eradicating HIV is a real possibility for Kentucky. “AVOL is committed to providing truly effective HIV prevention and life-giving services such as stable housing and support services,” added Parker. “This means every Kentuckian needs to know their HIV status and continue to evaluate their individual risk.”
