AVOL Kentucky Announces Inaugural HeartStrings Event Housing is HealthCare!
Lexington, Kentucky (January 30, 2024) – Today, AVOL Kentucky announced its inaugural HeartStrings breakfast event, highlighting the vital connection between affordable housing and good health. HeartStrings will begin at the Marriott City Center on Thursday, March 14, at 6:30 AM.
AVOL Kentucky is raising awareness and project funding to create new and innovative housing opportunities for individuals facing medical vulnerability, including those affected by HIV/AIDS. Proceeds from the event will continue to fund future projects through AVOL’s Timothea Branham Memorial Housing Development and Assistance Fund.
“In addition to being a basic human need, stable housing is a fundamental component of achieving and maintaining good health,” said AVOL Kentucky’s Executive Director, Jon Parker. “Access to stable and affordable housing is a cornerstone for individual and community well-being.”
AVOL is honored to have Kentucky Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack present as this year’s keynote speaker. He will offer his insights as we work together to build momentum and create new hope for our community’s most medically vulnerable citizens.
Parker added, “Housing provides a foundation for physical and mental health, offering crucial stability for individuals to thrive. Recognizing housing as a key component to successful health care means understanding the interconnectedness of our living conditions with overall health outcomes. It’s time for our community to prioritize housing as a vital prescription for a healthier society.”
In addition to Dr. Stack’s message, you will hear from individuals whose lives have changed through the recognition that good, stable, and secure housing directly correlates to good healthcare outcomes. We will also present our community’s first Housing IS Healthcare Champion Award!
